Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Arizona (LAMA)

Who is LAMA? As an advocacy ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Arizona (LAMA) derives its purpose from the Constitution of the ELCA, which states:

To participate in God’s mission, this church shall: ... Serve in response to God’s love to meet human needs, caring for the sick and the aged, advocating justice and dignity for all people, working for peace and reconciliation among the nations, and standing with the poor and the powerless and committing itself to their needs.

The purpose of LAMA is to advocate for justice in the areas of hunger, poverty, and civic engagement with and for those who have little or no political power. LAMA works with congregations and ministry partners in Arizona to create and use networks for advocacy on these issues.

Attention Sunday School Parents

Attention Parents: Sunday School families, please bring your Lenten World Hunger collection boxes to church for special offering.

This Lenten season we are encouraging the kids to participate in the 40-40-40 program outlined by Bishop Hutterer of the Grand Canyon Synod ( With the older students especially, we want families to focus each week on 1- doing something good for ourselves (wellness), 2- decluttering our lives, physically or metaphorically, and 3- donating to the ELCA World Hunger program. We understand that children may not have $1 a day, as suggested, but giving a little something each day (a dime or quarter) or a dollar or two a week would be a good way to help our kids understand the value of giving, especially during the Lenten season.

Bishop Hutterer has presented this as a challenge between regions and it would be great if families could sign up together, using the link in your weekly announcements. If your child did not receive a donation box this past Sunday, they will be available at the next Sunday school meeting. Our hope is to have the kids bring them in on Easter Sunday and present them to the church as our contribution to the challenge.

Thank you so much for sharing your kids with us!
